Most likely causes

What's actually going on

• Clogged dryer ventA vent packed with lint kills airflow, so the dryer can't exhaust or heat properly — and it's a genuine fire hazard. Always check this first.
• Blown thermal fuseA restricted vent often trips the thermal fuse, which then kills the heat entirely. Common and inexpensive to replace.
• Failed heating element (electric)The element burns out and the dryer tumbles cold.
• Bad igniter or gas valve (gas)On a gas dryer, a weak igniter or failed valve coils means no flame, no heat.

Safe steps before you call

Work through these in order — they're the same first checks a good technician makes.

• Clean the lint screen every load. A clogged screen alone can choke the heat — clear it before anything else.
• Check the vent all the way out. Disconnect the vent and clear it back to the exterior flap. Weak or no air out the wall = a blockage.
• Confirm the setting. Make sure it's not on Air Fluff / no-heat.
• Note the breaker (electric). An electric dryer on a half-tripped 240V breaker will tumble but not heat — reset it fully.
