Frost buildup in the ice maker compartment (the big one)
This is the root cause on the vast majority of Samsung French-door units. Humid air works into the ice maker enclosure and freezes into a block of frost that jams the ice maker and buries the fan. Ice output drops, then stops. A thaw brings it back for a few weeks — until it frosts again. Correcting the root cause is what makes it last.
Iced-over ice-room or evaporator fan (codes 40E / 22E)
When frost reaches the fan blade, the motor stalls and the fridge flags 40E/40C (ice-room fan) or 22E/22C (fridge evaporator fan). Same frost problem, showing up as a code. The fan itself is often fine once the real cause is fixed.
Ice maker assembly failure (code 39E)
The 39E/39C code points at the ice maker function itself — the module, motor, or sensor. On these models it frequently fails alongside the frost issue, so a good diagnosis checks both rather than swapping one and hoping.
Water supply to the ice maker
A frozen or kinked fill line, a failing water inlet valve, or low water pressure starves the ice maker so it never fills. This one looks like “no ice” without the frost — the diagnosis separates it fast.
Temperature and door-seal issues
A freezer running too warm (or a tired door gasket letting humid air in) accelerates the frosting. Part of a lasting fix is making sure the compartment is actually sealed and holding temperature.

A cooling repair means opening the sealed system — the compressor, evaporator, and refrigerant. That’s licensed work, and we hold the EPA Section 608 Universal certification to do all of it: recover, fix the leak or swap the compressor, pull a deep vacuum, and recharge it right.
